You may have noticed the not-so-subtle nautical theme on this site. I believe that rivers and oceans give us great metaphors and insights for life. Experiences, emotions, sensations and events come at you in waves. Sometimes they are gentle swells, sometimes the waters are choppy, and then other times you get hit by a tsunami!
“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” ~Jon Kabat Zinn
I believe that therapy and personal growth happen best when we accept that waves and currents are a natural part of life on this planet. How we interpret and interact with them makes all the difference. When we can allow the ebb and flow without resisting, repressing, denying, distracting or escaping through unhealthy patterns or habits, we are free to explore our options, make healthy choices and commit to meaningful change.
My approach to therapy is holistic, integrating mind, body and spirit. In our sessions, we will address what's on your mind, but also pay attention to the wisdom and healing potential your body provides. I support my clients in practices such as self-compassion, healthy boundaries and soulfulness in daily life. My theoretical framework is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy with trauma-informed, somatic awareness.
